Detroit students with housing instability

The number of unhoused students has more than doubled, and unsheltered students have nearly tripled.

The data shows a growth of 1,191 unhoused students, and about 48 unsheltered students, in the 2019 to 2020 school year. There were 2,579 unhoused students and about 142 unsheltered students in Detroit in the 2022 to 2023 school year.
Estimates calculated using federal and enrollment data and is focused on the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
