Nationwide and in most states for which data were available, white males age 10-24 had a higher suicide rate than their Black counterparts in 2021. In the U.S. as a whole, for example, there were 17.5 suicides per 100,000 population among young white males vs. 16.6 suicides per 100,000 population among young Black males. But in Virginia, young Black males had a slightly higher suicide rate than young White males.
