Population Growth in the 10 Largest U.S. Cities

New York, which lost nearly 400,000 residents in the first two years of the pandemic, grew in population by over 87,000 from 2023 to 2024, the largest gain among all U.S. cities. Each of the other 10 largest cities also grew in 2024, including Philadelphia, whose lead for sixth place over San Antonio has narrowed to less than 50,000 residents.
