After declining to a low of 4,109 recorded fatalities in 2009, the count of pedestrians killed in traffic collisions has risen steadily since, reaching 7,522 in 2022 -- the highest count since 1981.
Data from 1975 until 1990 comes IIHS. Data from 1990 until 2006 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Data from 2007 until 2022 comes from NHTSA's Fatality and Injury Reporting System Tool (FIRST)
