Number of pedestrian fatalities recorded annually from 1975 to 2023. After an all-time low in 2009, pedestrian fatalities have increased 78 percent to 7,314 fatalities in 2023.
After declining to a low of 4,109 recorded fatalities in 2009, the count of pedestrians killed in traffic collisions has risen steadily since, reaching 7,522 in 2022 -- the highest count since 1981.
