Cash assistance program application denials because of HOPE Act time limits

Case closures and application denials make up a fraction of all applications the Kansas Department for Children and Families received per fiscal year. The agency saw the highest number of applications in the past ten years in 2015 at more than 24,200 and the fewest in 2019 with around 17,800. The state's imposed time limit, which was changed to three years in 2015 and reduced to two years in 2016, is just one of several reasons for which an application could be denied.
