Prison Facilities with High Rates of Staff on Inmate Sexual Victimization 2023-24

Nine prisons—five male and four female—were flagged as high-rate facilities for staff-on-inmate sexual victimization. Each had rates at least three times higher than the national average of 2.2% for both male and female prisons, as shown in this table.

Note: Staff-on-inmate sexual victimization is called “staff sexual misconduct” in prior reports. High-rate prisons are those in which the lower bound of the 95% confidence interval is larger than 1.55 times the average among prisons by sex of inmates housed. These nine facilities are designated as having high rates of staff-on-inmate sexual victimization because their lower bound estimate is greater than 2.2% times 1.55 (or 3.41%) for both male and female prisons.
