UNESCO World Heritage cultural sites

Western Europe has many more UNESCO World Heritage cultural sites than other regions. Together, France, Italy, Germany and Spain contain about 30% of all 845 UNESCO-designated cultural sites in the world. Only vast China, with 36 cultural sites, ranks alongside these countries.

Some UNESCO-designated cultural sites have locations in more than one country; this map counts those as one set in each respective country. Regions in gray have no cultural World Heritage sites.
