The Centre has said it won't be able to directly pay ₹2.35Lcr ($32bn) of the GST compensation this fiscal. Of this shortfall, the Centre has argued only ₹97,000 ($13.2bn) is due to GST implementation, with the balance ₹1.38Lcr ($18.8bn) being blamed on the pandemic.
