District spending on contracted Special Education services nearly doubles in five years

Since state lawmakers outlawed caps on student enrollment in special education programs in Texas school districts in 2017, district spending on outsourced Special Education increased from about $30.7 for the 2017-18 school year to about $58.6 million in 2021-22.

*Figures were calculated using school district's reported spending coded for non-payroll guidance, counseling and evaluation services for services to students with disabilities, pre-k special education, and dyslexia
