Battery factory investment attraction reflects multiple local and regional signals

These are the three selected features with the largest predictive weights in RMI’s county-level model of battery-manufacturing investment attraction.

Note: The modeling represented in this exhibit uses public data on local economies, energy systems, geography, and state policies. Prior investment figures are calculated using the MIT/Rhodium Clean Investment Monitor. Employment growth is the average yearly change in total covered employment over the previous five years. RFC Michigan is an EPA electricity-grid region covering most of Michigan; it is a location indicator, not a direct measure of policy. The numbers show how much weight the model gives each factor after the data is prepared and normalized. Additional information is available upon request.
