Homeless students in California - a growing challenge

Most homeless students report that they live temporarily "doubled up"

School districts assess student homelessness each year based on conditions reported on census day, the first Wednesday of October. The count may vary based on student living conditions and district data collection practices. Districts have a financial incentive to collect this information to qualify for funding through the state Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and through federal McKinney-Vento grants.
