How long people were displaced by disasters

Hurricanes and other disasters can keep people out of their homes for days or much longer. Among more than 3 million people displaced by disasters between December 2022 and August 2024, about one-third were out of their homes for more than a month.

A pie chart shows how long people displaced by disasters were out of their homes: 41% for days, 23% for weeks, 12% for 1-6 months, 8% for longer than 6 months and nearly 16% said they never returned.
