Amnesty International’s Crisis Evidence Lab, with the help of its Digital Verification Corps, verified more than 68 photos and videos revealing the repeated use of JCB’s equipment in demolishing homes, shops, and mosques in the states of Assam, Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh between April and June 2022. Of the 68 videos and photographs, six were from Gujarat, five from Assam, 13 from Delhi, 14 from Uttar Pradesh and 25 from Madhya Pradesh. The Lab also verified five videos showing the use of JCB machinery in other episodes of forced eviction in Uttarakhand state. The videos and photographs involved incidents of either partial or complete demolitions of residential buildings and shops.
