The ratio rose rapidly during the pandemic for the San Jose and San Francisco metro areas, from roughly 1.7 times and 1.4 times, respectively, to 2.2 times and 1.9 times. Over the same period, the ratio rose in the U.S. overall from about 0.9 times to 1.0 times.
