Investor-owned utilities reported an average residential electric disconnection rate of 6.3% in 2024.

EIA’s new utility-level data shows total residential electric disconnections, along with each utility’s customer count. EPI calculated the annual disconnection rate by dividing the utility's annual number of disconnections by its annual number of customers.

EPI removed Cleco and Entergy Louisiana from the table after observing discrepancies.

Note: an individual customer account may receive a disconnection more than once a year.
