US industrial facilities with carbon capture and storage
Most U.S. facilities capturing and storing carbon dioxide as of October 2025 captured less than 1 million metric tons per year. The most common storage involved pumping the carbon dioxide underground to push oil toward wells, a process known as enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
Table shows facilities, states and how much each stores. It isn't much. The largest is 7 million metric tons per year. Most are under 3 Mt. And a wide majority use that captured CO2 for enhanced oil recovery.
