One in four cases retained in adult court involved only misdemeanor-level crimes

Case-level data from July 12, 2021, through December 31, 2023, was provided by the Maryland Judiciary for defendants denied transfer. The judiciary considers case-level data for defendants granted transfer to be confidential. Juveniles age 16+ who were charged with first-degree murder are not eligible for transfer and have been excluded from the analysis. These figures include both resolved and unresolved cases.
