Peak pollen impact dates are indicated by the vertical dotted lines. Each year's pollen peak is accompanied by a spike in asthma-related emergency department visits. The one exception came in 2020, when the local onset of the COVID-19 pandemic discouraged New Yorkers from visiting the ER.
