Percent of Income Spent on Rent with Federal Aid

Federal assistance helps ease unemployed renters' housing cost burdens. This chart shows the share of income spent on rent by the typical unemployed renter in Philadelphia with $600, $300, and $0 in federal aid.

The initial rent relief bill that provided an additional $600 per week helped bring rent burden down to 29.3%, slightly below the 30% threshold which is where a household is officially considered "rent burdened."
