UK economy looks weaker than when Labour came to power

Consumer confidence measures the level of optimism that consumers have about the performance of the economy in the next 12 months. The index shows changes in sentiment relative to previous periods. The PMI measures the activity level of purchasing managers. A reading above 50 indicates expansion; a reading below 50 indicates contraction.
