Appointments delivered in primary care in the previous 12 months, by staff group, August 2019 to September 2025
A line chart from the Institute for Government showing appointments delivered in general practice in the previous 12 months, by staff group, August 2019 to September 2025, where total appointments rose sharply after a dip during the pandemic. Appointments fell from about 300 million in 2020 to around 270 million in 2021, before recovering steadily to nearly 384 million by 2025. Growth was driven by other practice staff, whose appointments overtook those by GPs in 2023.
