Many households that filed taxes irregularly—or not at all—over the past three years had still participated in other government benefits programs during that time. The top five programs these households participated in were: SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), sometimes called food stamps—55% of households; Government health insurance for myself, my kid(s) or my family (like Medicaid, CHIP)—32% of households; Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for people who are older, have disabilities, or are blind—27% of households; Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for working adults with disabilities—26% of households; Government program support to pay for home energy bills—12% of households.
