Philadelphia lost more than 50,000 residents, or slightly more than 3% of its population, from 2020 to 2023. The percentage loss is on par with the declines in Los Angeles and Chicago, but not as severe as in New York, which lost more than a half-million residents, or 6% of its population. San Antonio added more residents since the pandemic than another other city, part of a trend of strong population growth in the South, the fastest-growing region of the country.
