Hog welfare laws covered 3% of national herd in 2022

Eight states (in yellow) ban the use of gestation crates, or confined metal enclosures, to house pregnant sows. (Ohio's law goes into effect in 2026.) Two states, California and Massachusetts, ban the sale of pork produced by using gestation crates.
