Violent crime rate per 100,000 residents

In 2024, Memphis, Tennessee, recorded the highest violent crime rate per 100,000 residents, while Chicago recorded the lowest. Violent crime rates in Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., declined compared with 2019, while rates in Portland, Oregon, and Memphis rose sharply.

Chart scales vary. Rates may differ slightly from FBI data due to Stateline's use of U.S. Census Bureau population estimates. The Los Angeles Police Department did not report crime data to the FBI in 2021 because of changes to the FBI’s data collection system.
