Relative expansion of built-up land in the U.S. since 1820

"Relative expansion" measures the percent increase of built-up area with respect to the previous point in time. Underlying spatial data is derived from the Historical Settlement Data Compilation for the US (HISDAC-US) which is based on the Zillow Transaction and Assessment Dataset (ZTRAX). Shown is the average county-level expansion per census region.
