Freytag's Pyramid as a Dataset: An interpretation

The X axis shows a progression of events in time (with time steps labeled 1-9). The Y axis is generally assumed to show increasing and then decreasing dramatic tension or suspense, here set at values from 0 through 4. 

The chart is based on Gustav Freytag, Technique of the Drama, English translation by Elias J. MacEwan, Third Edition (Chicago: Scott, Foresman and Company, 1900). Chapter II, Part II, “Five Parts and Three Crises of the Drama,” pp. 114-140. Not all stages are present in every drama, and the X and Y values above would vary in each individual play, and so should not be considered precise. Rather, the chart should be considered an exploration of how to express Freytag's original pyramid using data.
