Most of Southeast Asia ranks high in disaster risk - the Philippines is No. 1

Three Southeast Asian countries are among the top 10 with the highest disaster risk in the world (193 countries). The Philippines ranks first globally, followed by Indonesia (No. 3) and Myanmar (No. 6). By contrast, Singapore (No. 188) and Brunei (No. 168) are among the lowest-risk countries. The WorldRiskIndex calculates risk as a mix of a population’s exposure to natural hazards (floods, storms, earthquakes or droughts) and vulnerability (social, economic and institutional capacity to cope with and adapt to them).
