Medi-Cal spending exceeds $150 billion in the past decade

Since 2016, total spending on Medi-Cal has increased from $90 billion to over $156 billion. The General Fund portion of Medi-Cal accounts for a significant share of overall state spending — 16% this fiscal year. Total spending in 2024-25 is projected to decline slightly from this year's level.
