NYC Rent Guidelines Board decisions, 1968 to 2024

The board determines the amount that landlords can legally raise rents for stabilized apartments each year. This graph shows the allowable increases for new one-year leases.

Red bars show the annual rent increases approved by the Rent Guidelines Board from 1968 to 2023
• The RGB voted to enact a 10% increase covering two years in 1968
• They voted to freeze rents three times — in 2015, 2016 and 2020
• In 2021, they froze rents for the first six months of the lease before instituting a 1.5% increase for the second six months
