Diversion Differences by Defendant Race/Ethnicity - Black

In March 2020, there was a 6 percentage point difference in diversion rates between Black and White felony defendants, with Black defendants less likely to be diverted. In 2017, this difference was, on average, 12 percentage points.

The 2017 baseline was calculated as the average percentage difference in diversion rates between Black and White defendants each month in 2017. Data on misdemeanors was not available for Cook County.
