Arrests of immigrants with criminal convictions generally lead to deportations

Immigrants with criminal convictions make up the largest share of those arrested by ICE in Wisconsin since September 2023. Roughly two-thirds of those arrested with prior criminal convictions had left the United States by late July, either via removal or a process referred to in agency records as "voluntary departure." Deportations are generally not immediate, so some arrests recorded as "active" in July may have since resulted in a deportation. In 2025, the average gap between arrest and deportation for immigrants with criminal convictions apprehended in Wisconsin was 22 days.
