Australian and global warming compared

Global average warming tends to be lower than that reported by many countries, as the world's oceans — covering 70% of its surface — warm more slowly. By the time the Paris Agreement target of 1.5°C is breached, Australia will have warmed even further.

A bar chart showing the warming since 1910 of the globe as a whole (grey), the global oceans (blue), global land (green) and Australia (orange). As the globe is 70% ocean and they warm more slowly than land, the global average tends to be lower than the lands.
