National: Difference in average interest costs between 1, 2 and 4-year fixed rates from start of 2013 to end of 2016

Loan amount based on 80% of the National median property price of $348,000 (rounded to the nearest $1,000) at the end of 2012 per the REINZ December 2017 median price adjusted back 5 years per the REINZ House Price Index. Average 1, 2 and 4 year fixed rates based on owner occupier loans on Canstar's database available for an 80% LVR. Interest cost calculations assume the 1 and 2 year loans are re-fixed at the end of each period to the new average rate, over a total loan term of 30 years.
