Seas tend to be the highest in September at Kiptopeke, VA

The chart shows the monthly average sea level, in inches, from 1960 to the present. September, which tends to be the month of the highest tides, is highlighted, as is the average of January and February (when tides tend to be the lowest).

The data are presented as values relative to the mean sea level at Kiptopeke between 1983 and 2001. The data begin in 1960, following Yang and Chen, Geophysical Research Letters, 2025. Missing data were infilled based on the Sewell's Point tide gauge.
