Many US nonprofits hit by government funding cuts, disruption

About 1 in 3 U.S. nonprofit service providers experienced a disruption in their government funding in the first half of 2025. Some lost a grant or contract, some faced funding delays or freezes and some dealt with stop-work orders. Many contended with more than one of those kinds of funding disruptions.

Findings based on nationally representative survey data from 2,737 nonprofits. Survey conducted in April, May and June 2025.
