Voter Registrations Fell In 2020 Across the Country

A Center for Election Innovation and Research report compiling data from 12 states and Washington, D.C. found new voter registrations started off even higher in 2020 than in 2016, potentially a sign of high political energy this year — before dropping dramatically as the pandemic played out.

Numbers reflect new registrations in AZ, CA, CO, DE, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, NC, TX, WI, and VA. Data for Arizona and Georgia are preliminary.
