2026 World Cup Host City Rankings: Evaluating Traffic Flow, Safety, & Resilience

As tens of thousands of fans arrive in a host city for the 2026 tournament, the challenge will be ensuring vehicles not attending the event can navigate efficiently. This ranking evaluates all 16 host cities on the capacity of their road networks to manage large-scale events, using real vehicle data from the Altitude by Geotab platform.

How to read the table: All scores, both composite and sub-scores, range from 0 to 10, with higher being better. The composite score combines four factors, Congestion (35%), Idle Time (15%), Safety (25%), and Resilience (25%), measured within 5 km of each stadium (weighted at 60%) and within 20 km (weighted at 40%). A high resilience score can balance out lower congestion performance. Data comes from Altitude by Geotab commercial vehicle telematics, using Jun–Jul 2025 weekday averages and event resilience data through Apr 2026. Safety metrics include speeding (over 1.2× the posted limit), harsh acceleration, and harsh braking per 1,000 trips, normalized across all 16 stadiums.
