What we know about South Fork and Salt fire origins

Below are all of the lightning strikes that occurred in this area between June 1 and June 20, according to data provided to Source New Mexico by Vaisala Xweather, a lightning analysis firm.

A multi-agency team determined lightning caused the South Fork Fire that started June 17. Local officials are calling on the Bureau of Indian Affairs to release more details.

The cause of the Salt Fire, along with the four other fires depicted below, are still under investigation.
