Monthly Federal Employment Change in the Philadelphia Area

Philadelphia-area federal employment shrank by 1,583 between September and October — coinciding with when the deferred resignation program went into effect. Those choosing a retirement option through the program had to be separated from their agency by December.

Data reflect employment as of the final pay period of each month. The Philadelphia area includes Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties in Pennsylvania; Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem Counties in New Jersey; New Castle County in Delaware; and Cecil County in Maryland. Data for the United States Postal Service and employees working in most law enforcement or national security roles are not included.
