Pictured below, averages by county of the amount of chromium-6 found in water samples, as measured in parts per billion (ppb). The public health standard in California, which is along the lines of what some legislators in N.J. are pushing for, is 0.02 ppb. However, the current legal standard in California is 10 ppb, and the current limit in N.J. is 100 ppb for combined chromium dissolved in drinking water.
