Los Angeles and other coastal counties are losing children

The change in the total number of K-12 students, by county, between 1999-00 and 2024-25

Total student count includes both public and private schools. Private schools are only included if they have six or more students. Public schools include both charters and district-operated schools. County numbers can be distorted by online-only schools (either private or charter) that have an address in one county but primarily serve students from elsewhere.
