The number of Americans who get nutritional assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, fell to about 34.5 million in 2019 from a peak of 47.6 million in 2013.
Participation and benefits totals for 2018 and 2019 exclude North Carolina's data, so the actual total number of people getting SNAP benefits in those years was higher than indicated. This aid was previously known as food stamps.
