Note: Texas categorizes STAAR performance into four groups (1) Did not meet; (2) Approaches; (3) Meets; and (4) Masters. On Texas’s STAAR summary report, the ‘Approaches’ category is an aggregate of students who scored within ‘Approaches’, ‘Meets’, AND ‘Masters’ grade level performance standards in a given subject area. For example, the 95 percent math proficiency score for fourth grade ELs in year one of monitoring is comprised of 58 percent ‘Masters’, 21 percent ‘Meets’, and 16 percent ‘Approaches’.
