MDOC will reinvestigate dozens of prison homicides from the past decade

At least 43 people have died by homicide in Mississippi prisons since 2015, and another 21 have died of undetermined causes.

This chart does not include all manners of death. Five deaths from 2024 and 27 from 2025 are not shown because they are awaiting assessment from a medical examiner. Data for 2025 is current through Sept. 4.
