Possible sales tax hikes for train in Santa Cruz County

Construction of a train from Santa Cruz to Pajaro could cost $4.3 billion and would require voters to approve a new sales tax, according to Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission staff. Depending on state and federal construction grants, the tax could need to be 1.5% to 2.25%.
