Outcomes of child abuse cases related to drug use

Mississippi Today identified 44 cases in which women were charged with child abuse after using drugs while pregnant. The outcomes of these prosecutions varied greatly. Judges sentenced 11 women to drug court, in some cases allowing them to remove the felony from their record, while six were sentenced to prison time.
