The University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation projects New Jersey will see 25,879 deaths by July 1, 2021, from COVID-19. The death toll is projected to be as low as 25,601 with universal mask-wearing and as high as 29,324 if mitigation mandates ease and vaccines are less effective against virus variants.
