A remote site to drill into the ocean floor
In early 2019, the International Ocean Discovery Program Expedition 379 science and technical team drilled roughly half a mile into the ocean floor while aboard the drillship JOIDES Resolution. The ocean was nearly 2.5 miles deep at that location.
